Tips For Facilitating Photoshoots

Photoshoots can be an expensive thing or not; it depends what vision you want and you always start with that theme. If you want to hire a photographer or if you want to do the photography yourself, if you want to find models in your area, or if you know people who want to help you with your vision, the location you want, etc. It can go low budget or high budget and with experience with both I’d love to share what I’ve learned so far. And am looking forward to all I learn as I continue to grow my career. Low budget ; reach out to people you know, friends, family, friends of friends, ask their comfortability in front of the camera. See if they want to help you with your vision. Sometimes in return for photoshoots like this I would make a necklace, or piece of jewelry to give those who helped me along the way. Giving a little something back shows the value put in to your work.  Doing the photography yourself; watch YouTube videos about your camera and lighting tricks. The...

Entering The Sustainable Fashion World Consciously

From a growing independent designers’ point of view + experience      “As more and more people find out about what their dollars are supporting, they are starting to seek out sustainable fashion.”  -  @Brightly.eco  First , what is sustainable fashion? “It may be created in an efficient factory using renewable energy and resources, like wind, solar, geothermal, or hydropower, so it has low or neutral greenhouse gas emissions. The sustainable fabrics used may be light on the environment, like polyester made from recycled water bottles, nylon made from old fishing nets, upcycled or vegetable tanned leather, linen, alpaca, or Tencel – a viscose that is made in a close loop process from sustainably harvested wood. Creative Internships

Working in the creative industry has always been inspiring to me. I remember being in grade 7 looking at design schools. I’ve always been someone who wants to grow not only for myself, but with another business on the side. When looking for a creative internship; I would do my research for the area I lived in. Familiarizing myself with the companies, small business growing, etc. What they’re offering, maybe what I can offer to them as well with my current experience and then just reach out. You never miss what is meant for you if you continuously put your name out there.  There are many kinds of internships; one thing I will say from experience is that if you are working on a probation period for someone, make sure you have it in a contract. Everything. When they’re telling you when you’re getting paid. The length of the internship, etc. Without covering yourself like this you are exposed to being taken advantage of. Nurturing your creative energy; the ability to stay ...

Quitting Weed

“If you keep carrying old bricks you’ll keep building the same house” - Profound Pondering   We all respond differently to substances, for myself, No matter how creative I thought smoking weed would make me, it inhibited my ability to tap in to my full potential.  Transparency; I’ve been smoking weed consecutively since I was in grade 10 going through stages where I would use heavily and then try to stop again and again. Convincing myself it made me more calm, more chill and even more creative. These were the lies I told myself to feed my addictive personality.  When you have an addictive personality you will tell yourself anything to maintain that relationship with what you know you’re not supposed to. It can be hard to really see why this isn’t serving you and what it’s actually doing in the long run.  My husband and I averaged almost up to our rent a month on weed together. After calculating that we were disgusted with our habits. Something needed to change...
